SKIPPING MEALS: Studies show that skipping breakfast and eating fewer meals throughout the day may lead to weight gain. Skipping meals may cause your metabolism to slow down or lead to excessive hunger and overeating later in the day or evening. It can also lead to low blood sugar, moodiness and fatigue. Consider keeping healthy snacks like low-fat yogurt, low-fat string cheese, dried or fresh fruit, whole-grain cereals and nuts on hand. They can come in handy if you need to miss a meal.
A MATTER OF BALANCE: Do you love meat but feel that it just can’t fit into a healthy diet? Not true. Lean meats are very rich in nutrients such as protein, zinc, iron, and vitamin B12. The keys are: pick lean cuts to keep saturated fat down, and include meat as a balanced part of your meal—that is a 3-4-ounce portion—rather than making it the center stage of your meal.
BUTTER VERSUS MARGARINE: When it comes to the taste of butter versus margarine, some say butter is better. What about the health of your arteries? Butter is rich in saturated fat and cholesterol and stick margarine is rich in trans fat. Cholesterol, saturated fat, and trans fat all can raise LDL (bad) cholesterol. In addition, trans fat can also lower HDL (good) cholesterol levels. Consider a healthier option—buy a trans fat-free tub of margarine that you enjoy, and eat it in moderation.
CRAZY FOR CORN: Did you know that this favorite summer vegetable is low in fat, free of saturated fat, cholesterol and sodium, and is a good source of fiber and vitamin C? Select ears with green husks, fresh silks and tight rows of kernels. You can enjoy grilled or steamed corn-on-the-cob, add corn to guacamole or salsa for a little crunch, or make a corn relish by mixing corn with chopped vegetables, beans and vinaigrette.
SALAD DRESSING CALORIE COUNT: Many Americans are enjoying more salads these days. It can be an easy way to eat more vegetables. Research shows that moderate amounts of regular or light salad dressing actually promote nutrient absorption more than fat-free varieties. To help keep salads healthful, consider this way of applying the dressing. Place just 1-2 tablespoons of salad dressing in a large Ziploc bag or airtight container. Fill with salad, seal and shake away! A small amount of dressing will lightly coat your greens, giving them flavor without excessive calories.

The summer heat can be a girl’s worse enemy. Save your face by passing on foundation and only use powder. The lighter coverage will help with excess oil production and keep from clogging your pores with dirt and sweat. Keep in mind that most foundation have a sunscreen additive and powders do not. So to keep your skin from getting sun damage, don’t for get to put sunscreen on first. There are many types that give you high protection, (look for ones with Helioplex) and that are made to wear user your makeup. I found that Neutrogena brand makes some great daily sun protections. My favorite one to use on myself and clients is ULTRA SHEER LIQUID. It’s a Helioplex SPF 55! This product is light weight, non-grease and layers invisibly under makeup. Sun damage can also occur on other areas then the face. Don’t forget to apply some to your chest, neck and hands. Even daily driving can cause sun damage to these areas. UVB & UVA rays can penetrated through glass, such as car and office windows. A good idea is to keep a travel size sunblock in your purse. Coppertone Sport is perfect! It’s water proof, sweat proof and have a broad spectrum coverage. Just apply to exposed areas after you apply your makeup and out you go. Reapply later in the day before you leave work and your covered on the drive home or while your finish your errands. Hope your summer days are long and your skins stays beautiful!
Now that it’s getting warmer and we can start to wear clothes that don’t require layers. Let’s make spring the time for changing our look.
First, we need to wake up our winter selves. Second, let’s start with our hair. When you decide it’s time for a change start up top and pick styles that compliment your face structure. Most women fall into three categories; heart-shaped, round and long.
Heart-shaped ladies: choose a long bob with layers. If your hair is long this change will be drastic without making you feel like you just chopped everything off. Plus, the long layers will give you movement and create a more playful look. Inspiration: Victoria Beckham or Jennifer Lopez
Round shaped ladies: An asymmetrical cut will offset the roundness of your face. Round cuts, like a short bob will only create a more full faced look. So steer away from them. If you’re scared of full on cut, try an off-center part and heavy side-swept bangs. These small changes will keep the focus on the cheekbones; and that will minimize the fullness of the face. Long shaped ladies: Do not go for the middle part! This will only make the face look longer. To create a smaller forehead and chin try long bangs, long layers (both hitting around the cheekbone and lip areas) and a steep side part work best. Rock Style in Louisville (she did the hair and makeup of Kim Kardashian and her mother, Kris Jenner, a couple of years ago) helped get Los Angeles Lakers scout Bonnie-Jill Laflin, ESPN Motorsports analyst Hollie Huggins and soap opera actress and “Terminator 3: Rise of Machines” star Alana Curry camera ready for their Derby festivities.
Rock and her team of stylists — Whitney Kayrouz and Celita Sacra — primped and pampered the trio with hair and makeup services at their Galt House Hotel & Suites rooms for the Julep Ball, Maxim Party and the Hot 100 Party. M. Rock Style also did makeup for the three women on Derby day.
It is true that many women want to have sexy, fuller lips. Therefore, if you still want to apply lip liner in order to get plumper lips, make sure you always do this before applying the lipstick, and use a neutral one lip liner, or one that has the same tone, or even lighter than that of the lipstick you are applying.
